Yuli Chen

Lecture Title: Property Prediction and Microstructure Identification of Composite Materials
Yuli Chen got her Master and PhD degrees majored in mechanics from Tsinghua University in 2008. From 2008 to 2011, She worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Ohio State University in the United States. Then she joined Institute of Solid Mechanics, Beihang University in 2011 as an associate professor and was promoted to a full professor in 2016.
Currently, she is the director of Institute of Solid Mechanics, and she also serves as a deputy secretary-general of Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (CSTAM), associate editor of Composites Part A: Applied Science and Manufacturing and Forces in Mechanics, and editorial board member of several other journals such as Nano Materials Science, Chinese Journal of Mechanics, etc.

Jack Cheng

Lecture Title: Continuous Innovation Drives Industrialization of Additive Manufacturing
Mr. Jie Cheng (Jack) joined Farsoon Technologies as Board Member and Deputy GM in 2016, fully in charge of reinforcement of global sales and marketing, service system and channel network while promoting the execution of Farsoon 3D printing innovation and industrialization strategy.
Since joining, Mr. Cheng has rapidly improved regional market coverage, application technical support and channel network for both domestic and international business of Farsoon. By offering both metal and nylon 3D printing solutions, Farsoon actively supports its customers to accelerate the implementation of the smart manufacturing strategy. In 2020, Mr. Cheng Jie was honorably selected into the “Provincial and Municipal Industry Leading Talents” list of the Changsha City High-precision Talent Leading Project.
Mr. Cheng graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University with a Bachelor degree majored in Thermal Power Machinery and Device. He also holds a MBA degree from Murdoch University, Australia.
Mr. Cheng is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English. He lived in Guangzhou and Beijing over a long time before working in Farsoon. He likes reading, music and sports.

Yan Li

Lecture Title: 3D Printed Continuous Plant Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic Composites for High Mechanical Performances
Prof. Yan Li received her Bachelor and Master degrees from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and her PhD degree from the University of Sydney. Then she became a research scientist in the University of California, San Diego. She joined Tongji University in 2003 and now is the Dean of School of Aerospace Engineering and Applied Mechanics at Tongji University.
Prof. Li engages in the research of the design and manufacturing of advanced composites. She has been selected for talent programs such as National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and National Plan for the Special Support, and has been selected as a Highly Cited Chinese Researchers by Elsevier for four consecutive years. She was awarded SAMPE Fellow due to her recognition as a worldwide renowned scholar in advanced composites, especially on sustainable green composites and as one of the world’s top researchers on cutting-edge R&D of PFRCs.

Xian Jun Loh

Lecture Title: Thermogelling Polymers as Biomedical Materials
Professor Loh completed his basic and postgraduate studies at the National University of Singapore. A polymer chemist by training, he is currently the Executive Director of the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE) and President of the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry (SNIC).
As a pioneer and recognised global expert in the area of biodegradable thermogels, he is highly knowledgeable in developing these materials for various applications spanning biomedical, engineering, cosmetics, personal care and food. His scientific contributions have earned him the position of Fellowship in Fitzwiliam College in the University of Cambridge, Fellowship in the Royal Society of Chemistry, Fellowship in IOM3 - The Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining and Fellowship of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. He is also awarded the Highly Cited Researcher Award by Clarivate Analytics. He is also the current President and member of the Executive Committee of the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry. He was awarded The Public Administration Medal (Silver) in the National Awards (COVID-19) in 2022.
With his extensive experience in authoring >400 journal papers, 38 patents and know-hows, more than 30 book chapters and 7 books, he currently sits on several editorial boards of international journals as an expert in his area. His H-index stands at 102 and his publications has amassed more than 34000 citations. He has also successfully helped in the commercialisation of 8 different products and is always interested in the translation of science to products. He is the co-founder of Vitreogel Innovations Inc, a company specializing in the development of thermogels as vitreous endotamponades.

Jing Lou

Lecture Title: Physics-Based Explainable AI for Engineering Modelling and Design
Dr. Lou Jing is the Deputy Executive Director, and a Principal Scientist in IHPC. He also leads the Strategic and Planning Department to drive and implement long-term capability build-up and promote science & technology applications.
He was trained in physics with BSc, and fluid dynamics with PhD. Since joined IHPC in 1999, he worked in various fields, such as multiphase flow and mass/heat transfer modeling, urban environment modeling, fluid-structure interaction, bubble/droplet dynamics, microfluidics, and nonlinear hydrodynamics. Before he joined A*STAR, he worked as a research fellow at Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht in Germany (1995-1997), and research scientist at NOAA/Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory, USA (1997-1999). He published over 150 journal and international conference papers for his research works.

Hung Nguyen Xuan

Lecture Title: Data-Driven Porous Breakwater Modeling for Coastal Protection
Prof. Hung Nguyen Xuan (H. Nguyen-Xuan) is the Director of CIRTech Institute, HUTECH University, Vietnam. He is currently an adjunct professor at China Medical University (Taiwan) and a visiting professor at Sejong University (South Korea). He is the President of Ho Chi Minh City Association for Mechanics. He serves as editorial board member of Composite Structures, Computers & Structures, Engineering Fracture Mechanics and CMC: Computers, Materials & Continua, and editor of CMES: Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, and subject editor (on machine learning) of Underground Space, Associate Editor: Vietnam Journal of Mechanics, International Journal of Hydromechatronics.
Dr. Nguyen-Xuan earned several prestigious awards: Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Digital Cooperation Fellowship (2021), outstanding Humboldtian (2019), Georg Forster Research – Alexander von Humboldt (2015), Vietnam National University HCMC (2008 – 2013), and Nguyen Van Dao (2011).

Lecture Title: Atomistic Modeling of Hydrogen Impact on Metals
Dr. Shigenobu Ogata is a Full Professor in the Department of Mechanical Science and Bioengineering in Osaka University. He is also Research Affiliate of the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. He received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Osaka University in 1998. He was a visiting research scientist in the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering at MIT(USA) 2001 - 2002. He is an editor of Progress in Materials Science (IF: 37.400). He and his group aim to develop reliable theoretical models and neural network models for describing various nonlinear multiscale and/or multiphysics phenomena that appear in solid materials, and then to design materials with novel functions and a deformation process controlled at an atomic level in a predictive manner. He developed many mature and widely accepted models for the strength and deformation of materials; Amorphous deformation, Strength of crystal, Dislocation and Diffusion driven deformation, Hydrogen embrittlement and so on. He has published over 200 papers and received 9200+ citations. His has received more than 20 awards, including Lee Hsun Lecture Award of Institute of Metal Research, China (2014).

Wei Wang

Lecture Title: AI for Manufacturing – Challenges and Opportunities Ahead
Dr. Wang Wei is the Deputy Executive Director in Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), A*STAR. He is responsible to develop and drive R&D strategy planning and technical execution to deliver advanced manufacturing solutions with industry partners. Prior to his current role, he led quite a few A*STAR’s key initiatives, including A*STAR’s Model Factory for Industry 4.0 implementation, Supply Chain 4.0 programme to build up Supply Chain resilience through the adoption of digital and automation solutions, Smart Manufacturing Joint Lab to accelerate the development of automatic, digital and adaptive manufacturing solutions for aerospace industry.
Dr. Wang Wei obtained his Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering from Zhejiang University, China. He received his PhD from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and MBA from University of Manchester. He had published over 20 journal papers, 2 US patents and 1 book.

Zuankai Wang

Lecture Title: Nature-Inspired Designs for Water-Energy Nexus
Zuankai Wang is the Associate Vice President (Research and Innovation), Kuok Group Professor in Nature-Inspired Engineering, Chair Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Director of Research Center for Nature-Inspired Science and Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He received his BSc from Jilin University, his MSc from the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, and his PhD from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Before joining PolyU, Prof. Wang was a Chair Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and was the Associate Dean in the College of Engineering at the City University of Hong Kong. He is the Executive Editor-in-Chief of Droplet (Wiley).
Prof. Wang is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and the International Society of Bionic Engineering. He has won numerous awards, including the Nukiyama Memorial Award (2024), Falling Walls Science Breakthroughs of Year 2023 (Engineering and Technology), Croucher Senior Research Fellowship, Research Grant Council Senior Research Fellowship, BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize, Green Tech Award, Xplorer Prize, and the 35th World Cultural Council Special Recognition Award. He was named as “Highly Cited Researcher” by Clarivate Analytics (2022, 2023).

Yujie Wei

Lecture Title: Analytical Solutions to Deflected and Bifurcated Cracks
Dr. Yujie Wei received his B.S. degree in mechanics from Beijing University in 1997, a M.S. degree in solid mechanics from Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2000, and a PhD degree in applied mechanics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2006. After two years of post-doc experience at Brown University, he joined the University of Alabama as an assistant professor. In 2012, he joined the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and has been a professor there since then.

Lianyong Xu

Lecture Title: Performance Evaluation and Life Prediction of Welded Structures Under Extreme Environments
Professor Xu Lianyong, Chair Professor at Tianjin University, Director of the Institute of Welding and Advanced Manufacturing Technology at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tianjin University, recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Deputy Director of the Welding Branch of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, President of the Tianjin Welding Society, Chinese representative of the C-X Committee of the International Institute of Welding (IIW), Chief Expert of the National Key Research and Development Program, and Editorial Board Member of "Smart Manufacturing." He has led more than a dozen national science and technology projects, including the National Distinguished Young Scholar Fund, the National Key Research and Development Program, the National Marine Demonstration Special Project, the National Major Engineering Special Project, and the National Nuclear Science and Technology Major Special Project. He has published over 300 SCI papers, authorized over 100 invention patents. He has received two first prizes of the Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award, two first prizes of the Chinese Mechanical Industry Science and Technology Award, and one first prize of the Ministry of Education Science and Technology Progress Award.

Chunze Yan

Lecture Title: Additive Manufacturing of SiC Ceramic Matrix Composites
Chunze Yan is currently a full professor at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and director of the State Key Laboratory of Material Processing and Die & Mould Technology. He was selected as a Distinguished Professor of The Yangtze River Scholars of the Ministry of Education. His research works have engaged in raw material preparation, process development, equipment development and application promotion of additive manufacturing technology for non-metallic materials, including continuous carbon fiber reinforced composites (CCFRC), SiC ceramic and its composites, polymer materials and composite materials, etc. He is currently the associate Editor of Journal of Materials Processing Technology, Smart Manufacturing, Journal of Micromechanics and Molecular Physics and Advanced Manufacturing, And the editorial Board Member of Materials Science in Additive Manufacturing and Materials. He has won the Second Prize of National Technology Invention (ranking 2), the Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress (ranking 3), and China's Top Ten Scientific and Technological Progress (core members).

Wai Yee Yeong

Lecture Title: 3D Bioprinting – Design & Fabrication Strategy
Professor Yeong is Professor and Chair of Mechanical Engineering in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University.
Professor Yeong’s research work focuses on 3D bioprinting, as well as 3D printing of functional materials. She has attracted more than SGD$15M in research grants and published more than 180 papers with 15 Highly Cited Papers (top 1% of publication), and 4 textbooks. Prof Yeong also serves on international grant panels, such as the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant.
